Story: En route to Normandy, an American and a British officer reminisce in flashback about their romances with the same woman.

Twas the night before D-Day. One ship, carrying Special Force Six, leaves ahead of the main invasion on a dangerous mission. On board are British Colonel Wynter and American Captain Parker, who each, in flashback, reminisce about their separate involvements with beauteous Valerie Russell. Will the coming battle (confined to the films last fifteen minutes) determine which one comes home to her?

On a battleship part of the same joint American/British/Canadian special forces team heading to the Normandy coast for the D-Day invasion on June 6th, 1944, British Lieutenant Colonel John Wynter and American Captain Brad Parker, only having just met in preparation for this mission but each having been aware of the other for years in a personal connection, encounter each other, and briefly mention that personal connection, Valerie Russell, a junior officer with the British Womens Royal Army Corps based at a Red Cross club in London. The relationship each has with Valerie, with who they are both in love, are shown in flashback. Wynter has been in a serious relationship with Val ever since he was a member of her fathers regiment, Brigadier Russell, from the old school and British through and through, who has been reluctantly off duty since being injured in combat at Dunkirk. During this time of war, Val is often without Wynter as he is on one combat mission after another. Parker, a former paratrooper largely assigned to desk duties since breaking his leg in a jump, first met Valerie two years ago when he was working security detail under Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Timmer, whose style reflects the fact that he is not a career military man, but who wants to rise in the military ranks regardless. Parker and Valeries initial meeting was involving an incident with the Brigadier and needing to bridge the British/American divide. Craving companionship, Valerie and Parker became friends both being away from home and based in London, and despite she being in that relationship with Wynter and he having a wife back in the States, that friendship quickly developed into love on both sides. What happens in this love triangle is not only affected by the goings-on of this day and if either Wynter or Parker survive, but the thoughts of the realities of life after the war.
