Story: A strict headmistress runs a secluded school for wayward girls in 19th century France, whose students are disappearing under mysterious circumstances.

In 19th-century France, teenage Teresa Garan is the daughter of a cabaret-singer single mother. A friend of her mother pays for her to have one year at Ms. Fourneaus boarding school. Soon Teresa learns that the school is also a prison: Ms. Fourneau keeps everything locked up. Her protégée, the wicked student Irene Tupan, keeps watch over the other girls and uses her power to bully and torture them. Ms. Fourneaus teenage son is a peeping Tom and his mother keeps him secluded from the girls, saying theyre worthless and he needs to find a girl whos more "like his mother." When students start vanishing, their classmates think theyre running away, but theyre actually being abducted and murdered by a serial killer. When Irene discovers that Teresa is secretly meeting Luis, she tortures her until Teresa decides to flee in the middle of the night. What will happen to her?

Lilli Palmer owns and runs a school for wayward girls in France. Her absolute discipline has fostered a social order among the girls with rampant sex, lesbianism, and torture the norm. Palmer also has an adolescent son (Moulder Brown) she tries to keep isolated from the young women lest he be tainted; she explains that he must wait for a girl "just like his mother". Meanwhile, girls are "running away" (being murdered) one by one, with their corpses and any evidence of their outcome not to be found. Beware cut versions; the film was shown back in the 1970s on network TV chopped to only 76 minutes.
