Episode Info: After Suzanne moves to Japan to live with her mother and take advantage of their economic boom, her and Julias cousin Allison, who tried to make it in New York but failed, purchases her share of Sugarbaker & Associates. As Charlene goes to England to be with Bill, her recently divorced younger sister, Carlene Dobber, who had come to take care of Olivia, takes her place. Meanwhile, Mary Jo hires a male stripper for Julias birthday.

Story: The misadventures of four women and their handyman running a design firm in Atlanta, Georgia.

Outspoken feminist Julia Sugarbaker runs a design firm out of her Atlanta home, along with her shallow ex-beauty queen sister, Suzanne, divorced mother Mary Jo, and, naive country girl Charlene. Black ex-con Anthony helps deliver furniture for the business and voices his unique opinion on whatever the women are discussing. Episodes typically revolved around the work, personal, and love lives of these four women.

This show focused on Julia Sugarbaker, a soft spoken southern woman and her ex-beauty queen and snobby sister Suzanne, who own "Sugarbakers Design House" in Atlanta, Georgia. Their co-workers included the pretty redhead Mary Jo, and the sometimes dimwitted, but also pretty Charlene. Anthony was a black ex-con just recently out of prison who got a job at Sugarbakers doing delivery work. The series mainly focused on the five of them, but they got frequent visits from their friends, family, and customers. Julias sometimes commanding boyfriend Reese visited, and so did Charlenes husband Bill, who was a U.S. Colonel. Further uproar on Mary Jos part included her confrontations with her children Quint and Claudia and her ex-husband Ted, until she got a new boyfriend named J.D. By far, Sugarbakers frequent customer was the crazy old lady named Bernice. In 1989, Reese died and Suzanne moved away. Julia was forced to babysit the rich spoiled ten-year-old Randa Oliver for a few weeks and Julia and her made a quick relationship between young and old. In 1991, Charlene and Bill also left to pursue other things, but Charlenes sister Carlene took her place as well did Julias mean, snobby cousin Allison. In 1993, Julia finally sold Sugarbakers design firm to her friend and new co-worker Bonnie at the end of the series.
