Episode Info: One evening, Chief Ironside and Mark Sanger visit a precinct where the Chief worked as a young officer. Initially, the precinct Captain, played by 70s NFL hero, Roman Gabriel, greets the Chief formally, as if he thinks Ironside is there to meddle. In contrast, Ironsides old partner, played by veteran actor, Jack Albertson, is happy to see Ironside. Suddenly, there is a city-wide blackout; now, the young Captain is relieved to have Ironside on site and even provides him an office. There is a rush to organize and institute emergency protocol but the Chief remains ...

Story: Wheelchair-bound detective Robert T. Ironside battles the bad guys on the streets of San Francisco.

Ironside is confined to a wheel chair (an attempted assassination left him paralyzed). With his former assistants Brown and Whitfield (later Belding) and former delinquent (and later lawyer) Mark, he combats crime for the San Francisco police from his mobile office (a van) while leaving a pot of chili cooking back at headquarters.

Robert T. Ironside, chief of detectives with the San Francisco Police Department, is shot down by a snipers bullet while vacationing at a remote cabin. Ironside survived the attack, but became crippled from the waist down, and was confined the wheelchair. Realizing his skills as a crime-buster were too good to waste, Ironside became the head of his own special police unit; he moved into a specially-built office at SFPD headquarters, complete with sleeping quarters and exercise equipment, and inherited a crack staff: bland Sgt. Ed Brown, beautiful young Policewoman Eve Whitfield, and black ex-con Mark Sanger, who pushed Ironsides wheelchair and drove his special van. Whitfield eventually left the department, and was replaced by Policewoman Fran Belding, while Sanger graduated from law school, passed the bar, and married Diana.
