Episode Info: Ironside is trying to take down an illegal gambling operation. But when theres a raid the people in charge somehow find out and clean it out. Ironside suspects that someone in the department is tipping them off. And he has to deal with Fran Belding, a policewoman who is determined to take them down because she thinks that someone in the operation killed her father a cop. And Ironside is feeling weak, so he sees his doctor who tells him that he has a condition which needs to be treated and will require a long recuperation so he puts it off.

Story: Wheelchair-bound detective Robert T. Ironside battles the bad guys on the streets of San Francisco.

Ironside is confined to a wheel chair (an attempted assassination left him paralyzed). With his former assistants Brown and Whitfield (later Belding) and former delinquent (and later lawyer) Mark, he combats crime for the San Francisco police from his mobile office (a van) while leaving a pot of chili cooking back at headquarters.

Robert T. Ironside, chief of detectives with the San Francisco Police Department, is shot down by a snipers bullet while vacationing at a remote cabin. Ironside survived the attack, but became crippled from the waist down, and was confined the wheelchair. Realizing his skills as a crime-buster were too good to waste, Ironside became the head of his own special police unit; he moved into a specially-built office at SFPD headquarters, complete with sleeping quarters and exercise equipment, and inherited a crack staff: bland Sgt. Ed Brown, beautiful young Policewoman Eve Whitfield, and black ex-con Mark Sanger, who pushed Ironsides wheelchair and drove his special van. Whitfield eventually left the department, and was replaced by Policewoman Fran Belding, while Sanger graduated from law school, passed the bar, and married Diana.
