Episode Info: An overzealous shop manager tries to have a local respected elderly lady prosecuted for shoplifting of a minor item. The police decide not to pursue the matter.The disgruntled shop manager then refuses to co-operate with an anti-glue sniffing campaign organized by the same police and allows a local youth to purchase a large amount of solvent. A few hours later, PC Danny Sparks discovers the dead body of the boy in a derelict house. A furious Inspector Longton then goes to confront the manager and inform him of the tragic consequences of his actions.
Story: Inspector Jean Darbley is assigned to the small Lancashire town of Hartley.Initially, the long-serving sergeants at the station, Joe Beck and George Parrish, are sceptical and uneasy about having a female boss. But gradually she earns their respect and admiration. —arowlands-85400

Newly-promoted Inspector Jean Darblay takes charge of the police station in the Lancashire town of Hartley. She is the first woman to be placed in charge of the station and initially there is considerable scepticism from the long-standing staff of Sergeants Joe Beck and George Parrish.
