Episode Info: Tess Silverman arrives in the country after nearly 20 years in the city with dreams of selling off her share of the family ranch, Drovers Run.

Story: Five women run a cattle station, "Drovers Run", in the outback of South Australia.

Hardship and respect for the land are key at Drovers Run, a vast cattle ranch in the Australian outback that once belonged to Jack McLeod. Now, with his passing, his two daughters are reunited to decide the ranchs future. While Tess initially wants to sell her share, she finds that the land beckons to her. And her sense of optimism is much needed, given that Claire has spent years struggling to keep the ranch financially afloat. These two decide to run it together, with their housekeeper and mother-figure, Meg, her teenage daughter, Jodi, and a local girl, Becky, who is escaping her own troubles in town. Their lives are hard and the obstacles many, but the rewards are every bit as grand as the wild open land theyve inherited. Based on the successful 1996 telemovie of the same name.

After the death of his wife and son during childbirth, Claires father, Jack McLeod, married city girl Ruth Silverman. Tess was the product of this tempestuous but short-lived relationship. Growing up, the two girls had been very close but were separated when Ruth took 5-year-old Tess back to the city. Twenty years later, after Jacks sudden death, his daughters each inherit half of heavily mortgaged Drovers Run. Tess, who recently lost her mother to breast cancer, returns to Drovers in the hopes of cashing out and opening a cafe in the city, but is disappointed to be met with a less-than-rosy financial picture and the open resentment of her older sister. After Claire fires the male workforce, the sisters, with the help of housekeeper Meg Fountain, her daughter Jodi, and local girl Becky, decide to run the property themselves. The tentative -- and presumably temporary -- partnership is the first step in the reunited sisters effort to heal old wounds, improve their relationship, and lift the property out of debt. The next few seasons depicts the growing bond between the sisters, including Tess decision to stay at Drovers permanently, as well as their relationships with the neighboring Ryan brothers and others within the district. By the fourth season, Claires old friend Stevie Hall had relocated to Drovers and was intent on establishing a rodeo school. Jodis old school chum Kate also joined the Drovers women.
