Episode Info: In this test pilot, Anns parents are played by different actors, Ted Bessell plays Don Blue Sky, her agent who is also her boyfriend, and Ann has a group of three girlfriends. Don thinks that Ann should change her name from Ann Marie to a more suitable stage name because every time he tells people her name, they ask "Ann Marie what?". Ann is hesitant because she knows that it would upset her parents, particularly her father. As she predicted, her father becomes very angry and will not speak to her unless she keeps her name. Story: An aspiring actress moves from her hometown of Brewster, New York, to try to make it big in New York City, having to take several offbeat "temp" jobs to support herself in between her various auditions and bit parts.

Ann Marie is a struggling actress living in New York City. In between trying to find jobs acting and modeling she has time for her boyfriend, Don Hollinger, and her dad, Lew Marie.

From the small town of Brewster in upstate New York, Ann Marie has just moved to New York City on her own to pursue an acting career, much to the chagrin of her overprotective parents, Lew and Helen Marie, who see both Anns chosen career and New York City as no place a young woman like Ann should navigate on her own. As Ann goes on one audition after another, sometimes getting the job but more often not, Ann has to decide if any acting role is worth it in the long term trajectory of the serious actress she sees herself as being, the alternative often being the need to pursue non-acting jobs figuratively to put food on the table. In the process of living her New York City life, Ann meets Donald Hollinger, a magazine writer, the two who fall for each other. Don is another aspect of New York that Lew in particular doesnt like, as although he knows deep down that Don is a good guy, no man is good enough in Lews eyes for his daughter. In addition, Don, of his own doing, seems often to place himself in a bad light to Lew.
